Translator - Supply Chain

The NBCUX Lab is a small but rapidly growing group of UX/UI nerds led by Mina Azimov. We’ve worked on a variety of projects, ranging from content management systems to consumer-facing film promotional sites. Our passion lies in designing meaningful and immersive user experiences -- and we have a great time doing it. We’ve been approached by one of NBCU’s technology groups to assist with the research and design of an application called Translator (Supply & Broadcast).

What is Translator?

Translator is a heavily-used application that is utilized by many users with diverse workflows. Generally, it is a content order management software that helps NBCU to deliver on-time, high quality content. Translator communicates with different databases and fulfillment services, such as Mediator, to accurately prepare work orders before third-party distributors can air any content.

The process begins when clients navigate the asset repository to find their desired content by in Translator. After an order is placed, the internal technicians keep watch of the work orders so they can distribute the content to the appropriate clients on-time.

Translator is a powerful tool because it automates the work order fulfillment process, aggregates work orders and metadata from different upstream systems into one normalized output to Mediator, and it produces a large volume of processing data that is then used to inform users about an asset's availability and order status.
